Best Way To Learn Spanish

by admin on July 29, 2010

Learning Spanish can be fun and also help your career.  If you can speak Spanish and English you can probably make yourself understood just about anywhere in the world.

I personally learnt Spanish because I love the country and Barcelona in particular.  But I do know learning Spanish can enhance your career prospects massively.  If you think about it not that many people speak English and Spanish well, you become a rare commodity.

After initially struggling to learn Spanish I’m going to share with you the absolute best way to learn Spanish.

So How Can You Learn Spanish?

One option is to have home tutoring Spanish Lessons.  The benefit is that you can do it in the comfort of your own home so is super convenient.  How successful this largely depends on two factors, you and the skill of your tutor.

My personal experience of home tutoring was not very positive.  I found a lot of the stuff I was learning was not relevant, words I just was not likely to use.  I did not want to know the name for goat I wanted to know how to order food, or ask directions, just hold a normal conversation.

But as I said for some people this is the way to go although be warned it is expensive.  What you have to do is find a really top class tutor which is not easy to do.

Some form of learn Spanish night class is also popular.  One of the advantages of formal classes is that you can build a bond with your classmates which can motivate you to keep going.  Personally they are not for me, I wanted something more flexible and something a little more private.  I guess I did not want to make a fool of myself at the beginning.

Now that I have learned Spanish I would be quite happy to sit in a class and talk in Spanish, but in the early days that just was not an option for me.

Some people try to learn Spanish from free resources or from a book.  I’ve never seen this work for anyone EVER.  Just don’t go down that route it could put you off learning Spanish forever!

The Best Way To Learn Spanish Quickly

The final way is using an audio program of some sort.  Most of the best learn Spanish programs now use audio lessons coupled with interactive programs that make learning simpler, quicker and fun.

The benefit of these learn Spanish software’s is they allow you to learn at your own pace.  They also tend to mix learning styles so you get the best overall learning experience.  Even better these tend to be really affordable.

You have to take your own learning style into account but for me the learn Spanish software route was the way to go for me and gave me great results AFTER I found the right learn Spanish program.

The best learn Spanish program I found was called Rocket Spanish, you can check out my Rocket Spanish Review here.  Rocket Spanish was easy to use and it taught you the Spanish you would actually use not some nonsense a tutor wants you to learn.  It also comes with a 60 day unconditional refund if you are not satisfied with the program.

My Rocket Spanish Review is to help people decide if Rocket Spanish is the best way for them to learn Spanish.

I’ll tell you EXACTLY what I liked and did not like about Rocket Spanish.

Just as a bit of brief background about me.  I decided to learn Spanish because I love Barcelona and I wanted to stop feeling like an idiot when I visited.  After a brief attempt to learn Spanish with a Tutor I realised that I was learning incredibly slowly and at the same time I was going broke… the lessons were seriously expensive.

So I decided to try an online Spanish software program.  Initially it was a bit of a disaster as I jumped in to the first program I found and basically it was poor.  After three weeks I gave up and lost my cash, complete bummer.

Because I’m stubborn (my wife may say stupid!) I decided to try again.  This time I actually did some research to find the best learn Spanish programs out there.  I got it down to two, both had excellent feedback.

How Did I Choose An Online Spanish Programme?

Easy the cheapest one which also happened to have a 60 day unconditional refund guarantee.  Before buying this course I was already over $400 down so I was not going to get burned again.

That course was Rocket Spanish.  And the result?  I can now speak conversational Spanish and even my Spanish Grammar is coming along, quite a feat considering my English Grammar is appalling!

Without boring you with all the details here is what I liked about Rocket Spanish:

  • It focused on vocabulary and language you will actually use (80% of all conversations in any language only use 1,500 common words).
  • There is a hell of a lot of lessons but they are easy to follow and most are only 25 minutes… about the maximum length of my attention span!
  • It takes you from beginner to intermediate in a logical easy to use way
  • It has audio lessons and some great interactive games to help you learn and have a bit of fun
  • As well as language lessons you get culture lessons as well which I found really cool
  • They don’t forget reading and writing in Spanish as well although they were of less interest to me at the beginning
  • You get a 60 day unconditional refund if you don’t like the product – This is fantastic, I guess this shows how confident Rocket Spanish is that you will love the product
  • It’s affordable and a one of cost unlike my never ending home tutor lessons
  • Perhaps the most important thing is that you make quick progress which motivates you.  I’ll admit I’m not great with languages but even I was speaking Spanish quite well after the third week.

Negatives about Rocket Spanish:

  • Some of the pictures in the games are a little misleading – I got some questions wrong just because of the pictures… I guess I’m too competitive!
  • I personally had no use for their massive forum, but I guess some people like hanging out and learning from other students.
  • The program suggests it will take you 8 weeks to become an intermediate Spanish speaker, this was a little ambitious for me it took me 10 weeks.  I must confess this may be to do with my lack of language skill rather than a failure on the part of Rocket Spanish.

I guess that is it for my Rocket Spanish Review, if you’re thinking of learning Spanish I would give it a go with the 60 day unconditional refund policy you really have nothing to lose!

PS If you’re a guy there is one extra unexpected benefit, my wife loves the sound of me speaking Spanish!

In this post I will tell you EXACTLY where to find the best online Spanish classes and which ones you should avoid.

The first type of Online Spanish Courses you should avoid are the free ones.   I’ll admit I’m a bit cheap so this is the first place I started.  What I found out is these “free” online Spanish lessons are not free, they are a taster to entice you into buying a useless course.

These free online Spanish classes ended up costing me over $300 and taught me very little.  These courses reminded me of school, they gave me a bundle of information I would never use.  They teach you Spanish words and phrases that are just useless to you.

One of the phrases these online courses had me saying was “have you seen my Parrot”.  Can you imagine EVER having to say that!

So I guess what I’m saying is beware of what you buy.

Quality Free Online Spanish Classes

The only free course that is worth a damn is the free 6 day taster course from Rocket Spanish.   You get some free audio Spanish, Spanish grammar and culture lessons for free.

I have put there form below, I recommend you check it out.

FREE COURSE FORM

After trying a few courses and doing a lot of research on learning Spanish online I tried Rocket Spanish.  After the reviews I had read and because they have a 60 day money back guarantee I did not bother with their free course, I jumped straight in.

After completing the course I don’t think you can better their online Spanish classes.

What was important to me was I learnt Spanish that I could use and that is exactly what Rocket Spanish focuses on.  You learn words and phrases that allow you to communicate with a Spanish speaker in everyday situations.

The course gives you over 60 simple to follow lessons that are interactive, a feature the other courses failed on.  Each lesson is around 25 minutes and even they are broken down further so you can literally do five or ten minutes at a time.

They make sure you get your grammar spot on and concentrate on your pronunciation as well.

After a few weeks your motivation really kicks in because you can see you are making quick progress.

One of the most enjoyable parts learning Spanish online with Rocket Spanish were their games.  They have three games focusing on language, verbs and grammar and it really took the hard work out of the learning.  If you’re competitive like me, the games really spur you on.

If you are checking out online Spanish classes I would definitely subscribe to Rocket Spanish’s free 6 day course, it will give you an idea if there style of learning works for you.

Good look with your online Spanish lessons!

Online Spanish Classes appealed to me when I started out learning Spanish they have a lot of benefits:

  • You can learn  in the privacy of your own home – A big deal to me as I’m not a natural when it comes to languages
  • You learn at your own pace rather than that of the class tutor – great for me as I started slow but really got pretty good towards the end
  • Online Spanish lessons are always there – I even cranked a lesson up at 11pm one night when I could not sleep.

But Do Online Spanish Classes Actually Work?

Well for me they worked really well – and I’ll tell you the best one in a moment.  But it was not without its false starts.  I originally was going to try online college Spanish classes but after checking them out decided they were just too inflexible.  The whole point of doing online Spanish lessons was to learn at my speed at do the stuff that was important to me.

Be Careful!

As with everything i had to try a few courses before I found a really good one.  For me as a beginner I wanted to get basic Spanish first with a good grasp of Spanish vocabulary and a decent grasp of Spanish grammar.  Some of the courses just did not give you a solid foundation and really skipped over the foundations of the Spanish language.  The second online Spanish class I tried was pure torture the whole site was a mess and did not follow any logical order.

Make sure you choose online Spanish lessons that have a solid track record like Rocket Spanish.

Unlike some of the other online courses I tried Rocket Spanish was easy to follow and most importantly was truly interactive which makes you want to learn.  I absolutely loved their Spanish software games which stoked up my competitive nature and made the learning fun.

In a matter of weeks with Rocket Spanish you will find yourself making massive progress, it’s no wonder their site is packed with testimonials.  Check the site out if you’re interested in learning Spanish.

As for me I’m still improving with the help of Rocket Spanish.

Drop me an email when you have gone through the course and are fluent!
